Terms of Service

Effective: August 18, 2026 · These terms are an agreement between you and Oikonome LLC, an Idaho limited liability company ("Oikonome", "we", "us"), and cover the hosted service at oikonome.com and its subdomains ("the Service"). Self-hosting the Oikonome software is governed by the software's license, not these terms.

The service

Oikonome is a personal-finance application: budgets, transaction tracking, bill schedules, forecasts, and summary emails. It is an informational tool, not financial advice — verdicts, forecasts, and projections are computed from your own data and assumptions, and are not recommendations to buy, sell, or do anything with your money. Always verify balances and obligations with your financial institution.

Your account

Acceptable use

Don't attempt to breach, probe, or overload the Service; don't access other users' data; don't use the Service for unlawful activity; don't resell it. We may suspend accounts that threaten the Service or other users.

Subscriptions and billing

Paid plans are billed in advance (monthly or yearly) through Stripe, or through the App Store when you subscribe inside the iOS app, and renew automatically until you cancel. Prices are shown before you pay; changes to pricing are announced by email at least 30 days before they affect you.

Cancelling. You can cancel any time from Settings → Subscription. Cancellation takes effect immediately and we refund the unused part of the period you already paid for, prorated by the day, to the card that paid it. Because the subscription has ended, your bank connections are disconnected at that moment and stop syncing.

App Store purchases. A subscription bought inside the iOS app is billed by Apple and is cancelled or refunded in your Apple ID's Subscriptions settings, under Apple's terms — we cannot end it or refund unused time on your behalf. Deleting your Oikonome account does not cancel an App Store subscription; cancel it with Apple first.

What happens to your account after it ends. Whether you cancelled or a payment could not be collected, your data stays in place and readable — but not editable — for 30 days; the Subscription page shows the date. Resubscribe within that window and the account carries on (you reconnect your banks). If you do not, we send two reminders, and at the end of the 30 days the account and all of its data are permanently deleted. You can export everything, in standard formats, at any point before that — including during the read-only window.

If a payment fails we retry and notify you before the subscription ends. Payments that fail are not refunded, since nothing was collected. If we ever get something wrong on a charge, email us and we'll make it right; statutory refund rights are unaffected.

Your data

Your data is yours. We claim no ownership of it, use it only to provide the Service (see the Privacy Policy), and you can export or delete it at any time. If the Service is ever discontinued, we will give at least 90 days' notice and keep export working through that window — and the software is self-hostable, so your data outlives any hosting decision we make.

Service level

The Service is offered as-is: features may change, and while we back up data nightly and take availability seriously, we do not offer a formal uptime commitment.

Disclaimers and liability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law. We are not liable for financial decisions made using the Service, for the accuracy of data supplied by your institutions or aggregators, or for indirect or consequential damages. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

Termination

You can close your account at any time — Settings → Security → Delete account erases it and everything in it, and cancels any subscription on it. We may suspend or terminate accounts for violation of these terms, with notice where practical. Where we end an account, you retain the right to export your data for a reasonable period, after which it is deleted.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Idaho, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules; disputes belong to the state or federal courts located in Kootenai County, Idaho, where Oikonome LLC is organized and maintains its principal office.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change materially, account holders are notified by email at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Continued use after that date is acceptance.
